Lavender Ameraucana

The beautiful self-blue/lavender Ameraucana make for a unique color. They have a pea comb, tote beautiful fluffy muffs, and lay blue eggs.

Breed History

As you may be able to conclude from the name, Ameraucanas originated here in the US in the 1970s and 1980s. The breed is most sought after for the blue eggs they lay and their adorable features. Ameraucanas are similar to the Faverolles in that they also have large muffs and beards. The American Standard calls for these to be full and well rounded. There are eight varieties currently recognized by the APA. Lavender Ameraucana was added as an accepted variety in 2020. This color stands out from the "blue" varieties as being uniform with no contrast in color between any section, whereas blue calls for lacing with black. For lavender, the color is a clear blue that flows and is well blended. The male sex feathers do carry a "metallic gloss".
