Lavender Ameraucana
The beautiful Lavender Ameraucana (self-blue) is distinguished by its soft, pastel lavender feathers that blend seamlessly, creating a uniform and eye-catching appearance. Featuring a pea comb and charming fluffy muffs, these birds are not only visually appealing but also lay exquisite blue eggs.
Breed History
Ameraucanas, as their name suggests, originated in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s. This breed is highly sought after for its beautiful blue eggs and delightful features. Known for their friendly and curious disposition, Ameraucanas are a joy to have in any flock. The American Standard calls for large, full, and well-rounded muffs and beards. Currently, eight varieties are recognized by the APA, with the Lavender Ameraucana being officially accepted in 2020. This rare variety distinguishes itself from the 'blue' types by presenting a uniform, consistent color with no contrast between sections, while the blue varieties are characterized by lacing with black. The lavender hue is a clear, well-blended blue, and males display feathers with a notable metallic gloss.
