Silver Bielefelder

The silver variety of the Bielefelder breed is quite rare and beautiful, laying a prolific amount of extra large brown eggs.

Breed History

The Bielefelder breed is an auto-sexing breed that has been around since the 1970s, originally developed in Bielefeld, Germany. You can easily distinguish the males from the females at hatch due to their coloring and pattern. They are prized for their extra large eggs and ability to lay an abundance of them throughout the year. The birds are large, docile, and active. The hens usually weigh between 6 to 7 pounds. They do take a little longer to mature and do not usually start laying until 6-8 months old. The wait is definitely worth it, as these are beauties you are guaranteed to enjoy!
